Is this you?

Four Signs Your Store Is Holding You Back

Every one of these has the same root cause: a platform set up to launch rather than to trade.

  • Your theme is fighting your brand

You bought a template, customised it heavily, and now every update risks breaking something.

  • Merchandising means raising a ticket

Your team can't change a landing section or launch a campaign page without a developer.

  • Checkout is where the money leaks

Traffic and add-to-carts look fine; completed orders don't.

  • You've outgrown the platform you're on

WooCommerce, Magento or a custom build is costing more in maintenance than it returns.

Overview

Shopify Development, Built Around How You Actually Trade

Custom themes and headless storefronts, judged on conversion rate rather than on how they look in review.

Shopify's appeal is that it removes the hard infrastructure problems — payments, PCI compliance, uptime at peak — so the work that's left is the work that actually differentiates a store: how products are merchandised, how quickly a page loads on a mid-range phone, and how few steps stand between wanting something and having bought it. That's where we spend the effort.

We build custom themes rather than reskinning marketplace ones, because a marketplace theme carries code for a hundred stores that aren't yours and you pay for it in page weight. Where the catalogue is large or the front end needs to do something Liquid can't, we go headless with Hydrogen or a Next.js storefront on the Storefront API. And we build sections and blocks so your marketing team can assemble new pages themselves — a store your own people can't change is a store that stops improving the day we leave.

Everything gets judged on trading numbers rather than on how it looks in review: conversion rate, average order value, checkout completion, and Core Web Vitals on mobile. We hand over the theme, the documentation and a walkthrough, and we're happy to be on call afterwards — but the point of the build is that you shouldn't need us to be.

Capabilities

What's Included

Nine areas of Shopify work. Most builds use six or seven; we'll tell you which.

  • Custom Theme Development

Themes built from a clean base to your design, with a section and block architecture your marketing team can compose pages from.

  • Shopify Plus Builds

Scripts, Functions, checkout extensibility, B2B catalogues and expansion stores for merchants operating at Plus volume.

  • Headless Storefronts

Hydrogen or Next.js front ends on the Storefront API, for large catalogues, complex merchandising or content-heavy commerce.

  • Platform Migration

Moves from WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce or bespoke builds, with products, customers, orders, URLs and SEO equity carried across intact.

  • App Integration & Evaluation

ERP, PIM, 3PL, subscription, loyalty and review integrations — plus honest advice on which apps to remove, since every one costs page speed.

  • Custom App Development

Private and public Shopify apps when off-the-shelf can't do it, built to Shopify's current API standards.

  • Checkout & Conversion Engineering

Checkout extensions, upsell logic, cart behaviour and friction removal on the paths that actually convert.

  • Performance Optimisation

Theme weight, image handling, third-party script control and Core Web Vitals, tuned for mobile shoppers on ordinary connections.

  • Storefront SEO Foundations

Collection and product templates, structured data, canonical handling and faceted navigation control built in from the start.

Our Process

How We Build and Launch a Store

Six phases across 8–16 weeks, with a staging store you can trade against from phase four.

  • 01

    Discovery & Catalogue Review

We map how you merchandise, what your catalogue and variant structure looks like, which integrations are non-negotiable, and where the current store loses money.

Deliverables: Requirements document, integration map, migration risk assessment

    1–2 weeks
  • 02

    Architecture & Planning

Theme versus headless decided on evidence, data model and template structure defined, app stack rationalised, and the build sequenced into sprints.

Deliverables: Technical approach, template inventory, sprint plan

    1–2 weeks
  • 03

    Design & Prototyping

Key templates designed and prototyped — home, collection, product, cart, checkout — and validated before any Liquid is written.

Deliverables: Template designs, clickable prototype, component specifications

    2–3 weeks
  • 04

    Development & Testing

Theme or storefront built in sprints, integrations wired, data migrated to a staging store, and every template tested across devices and browsers.

Deliverables: Working builds each sprint, staging store, QA reports

    6–14 weeks
  • 05

    Launch & Migration

DNS, redirects, final data sync, payment and shipping verification, then a monitored go-live scheduled outside your peak trading window.

Deliverables: Live store, redirect map, launch checklist, monitoring

    1–2 weeks
  • 06

    Support & Optimisation

Post-launch monitoring, issue resolution, and a prioritised list of conversion improvements based on how real customers behave.

Deliverables: Support reports, performance analytics, optimisation roadmap

Engagement

How We Work Together

Three shapes, depending on whether you're building, moving, or shipping continuously.

  • A defined store build at a fixed price. Best when the catalogue and requirements are settled.

Fit

Who This Is For

And, just as usefully, who it isn't for.

Ideal for

  • D2C brands outgrowing a marketplace theme
  • Merchants migrating from WooCommerce, Magento or a bespoke build
  • Shopify Plus merchants needing checkout, B2B or expansion-store work
  • Retailers with large or complex catalogues and heavy merchandising needs
  • Brands whose store is fast enough on desktop and slow on mobile
  • Teams that want to run campaigns without a developer in the loop

Why DM Solutions

How We Build Shopify Differently

Four decisions that show up in your trading numbers rather than in the pitch deck.

  • Custom Themes, Not Reskins

We build from a clean base. Marketplace themes carry code for stores that aren't yours, and you pay for it in load time on every visit.

  • Your Team Can Merchandise

Sections and blocks designed so marketing can launch a campaign page without opening a ticket. Handover isn't a document, it's an architecture decision.

  • Migrations Keep the SEO

Redirect mapping and URL preservation planned before the move, not patched after traffic drops. We've cleaned up enough of those to take it seriously.

  • Speed Is a Requirement, Not a Phase

Page weight budgets set at the start and enforced through the build. Every app we add has to earn its milliseconds.

Proof of work

Stores That Trade Better Than They Did

Builds and migrations where conversion rate, order value or page speed moved measurably.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The six every merchant asks before committing to a build.

  • Most launch in 8–16 weeks. A focused theme build on an existing design can be quicker; a headless storefront with a large catalogue and ERP integration runs longer. You get a sprint-level timeline after discovery, before development starts.
